Biography

There are many stories I have heard from colleagues for their reasons they have entered this field and my story is no different. Mental health has been a topic of conversation in my family since childhood and when I learned that I could be an asset to others to help them manage life stressors it was an easy career choice. I have been working in the mental health field for over 10 years in various settings, which have further opened my eyes to the complexities of mental health.

I enjoy working with individuals, couples, and families. I am honored and excited to provide tools for people to utilize in order to be successful in any setting, especially with their relationships with others and themselves. I value transparency as a clinician. There are no secrets as to why I may suggest an intervention and I will explain how I may view a a certain issue so that my client(s) can be well informed to decide if it’s a good fit for them. We are a team and to have a team is to have good communication. This time and work is for you, so believe that your opinion and input will be heard and valued.

Clinical Interests

I enjoy working with individuals who are seeking meaning and value within themselves. My education is primarily geared towards the individual. The client is the expert on their life and my responsibility is to help them achieve a goal or create the change they crave. I value my work with couples who wish how to argue in a healthy manner. My professional experience has led to a surprise interest in couples work, especially those within non-traditional relationships.

I am excited to provide support to children and parents so they may learn how to communicate and feel supported by members within the family unit. I have several years of experience working with children and families using a Developmental Repair model. My time with PRIDE Institute led to the importance of showing up for one’s community. I enjoy my work empowering others within the LGBTQ+ community. Although I have a lot of experience, I know I am limited by what I don’t know. I am always trying to challenge myself and continue my education so I may be a vehicle for change for all types of individuals, couples, and families.

Clinical Approach

As I mentioned, the client is the expert on their life! The key to success in therapy is the relationship between the client and therapist. I employ a client-centered approach with unconditional positive regard. However, this does not mean that I will not challenge you. I am typically direct in my communication so we may work collaboratively. Communication is key for setting the stage for a team effort to achieving a goal. When you communicate your needs, even if it is that you are unsure of what you need, then that will be enough. We will take as much time as you need to feel confident in our working relationship. I develop trust by transparency in my work. I will not surprise you with anything and will explain my reasoning or use of strategies.

Hobbies

I am a certified geek! I love video games, typically RPG and some of the classics like Super Mario and Pokémon. I tend to enjoy individual focused games but I can’t say no to a co-op or group game! I am an avid reader and will read anything that is suggested to me. Art has been a passion of mine since I was young.

Any style or medium is on the table, which happens to be cross stitch and acrylics at the moment. But the outdoors has a special place in my heart. I enjoy camping, hiking, and bouldering. I make an effort to go on to a state or national park every weekend so I may experience new waters, fauna, and flora. And who doesn’t enjoy some awesome food after a good hike?
